BGC Partners, Inc., one of the world’s leading inter-dealer brokers, announced today that it raised over $8 million for charity on its highly successful Fourth Annual Global Charity Day held on Thursday, 11 September 2008, bringing the total over four years to more than $23 million.
The London event was supported by over 120 guests, including HRH The Prince of Wales, Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson, movie stars Kevin Spacey, Joseph Fiennes and Rosamunde Pike, plus Olympic gold medallists Ben Ainslie, James DeGale and Rebecca Romero, all helping to raise money for their chosen charities by assisting BGC brokers with multi-million dollar deals on the trading floor.
In New York, BGC was supported by guests including Mayor Michael Bloomberg, Hollywood stars Steve Buscemi, Matthew Modine and Eli Wallach, business magnate Donald Trump and a host of sporting legends including Boomer Esiason.
Lee Amaitis, Co-Chief Executive Officer of BGC, (PICTURED RECEIVING A SPECIAL MANCHESTER UNITED SHIRT FROM SIR ALEX FERGUSSON) said “It has been a fantastic day and I thank everyone for making it such a great success. At a time of challenging economic conditions in so many markets, our clients have been terrific with their support and I am extremely grateful to them and to all our guests and staff for their commitment. As a result, over $8 million will be going to very deserving causes.”
